Synchronization Ease of Use     (1.64)
The sync software that comes with the E100 is called iriver plus 3. Let's start with the conclusion: use Windows Media Player or something else. The main reason iriver plus 3 is bad is because it has an unintuitive control scheme. First of all, the software will only play nice with giant folders full of music. If you have each album in a folder and that folder's inside an artist folder, then you'll have to go into each individual folder, select all the music in the folder, and port it over. This, obviously, is a pain. Also, we found that every once in a while the sync program would get hung up and refuse to close unless you end the process from the task manager.

Synchronization Features & Support     (3.50)
There aren't many features on the iriver Plus 3 software. Other than being able to sync the basic suite of music, videos, and pictures, you can also port over your .txt files (iriver has chosen to call these files Ebooks, although it doesn't support other Ebook formats).

Other Synchronization Software Features     (4.00)
Although it's not the best sync software, the media player embedded in the iriver Plus 3 software isn't bad. This is the main plus, however. In terms of organization, there isn't much you can do in iriver Plus 3 that you can't do in your system's file browser. You can, however, rip CDs. This is becoming a common feature in sync software, but there are still plenty of devices whose sync software does not have this functionality, and plenty more players that come with no sync software at all. Overall, iriver Plus 3 is sub par in the way of extras, but not the worst we've seen.

This is the E100's file browser. It's very basic.
