Photo Album (2.40)
The photo album software on the Walkman 16GB is similar to what you might find on an entry-level cell phone. The view is a grid of thumbnails, allowing you to scroll up, down, left, and right, then to click Select to open a photo in all its full screen glory. The photo album software is basic, but adequate for showing off the grandkids or the pets.
Podcast Support (4.00)
Podcast support is just about the only reason we'd recommend booting up Sony's Walkman sync software. With this you can paste in the URL for a Podcast feed. Unfortunately, once they're on your device, podcasts are lumped in with your music, making them a bit of a pain to locate.
There are a few options for customizing how podcasts are handled. When new podcasts pop up on your feed, you can either opt to automatically download the latest one (or latest 2, 3, 5, or 10) or download all of them. Conversely, you can opt to to download nothing, effectively shutting off automatic downloading. You can also set the max amount of podcasts you can store on your device: you can keep the last 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 items, or opt to keep all of them. There's also a checkbox to automatically transfer new items to your device.
Really, this isn't bad podcast support. It's a pity the Walkman sync software is so painful to use otherwise.
