Basic Playback Controls (7.00)
The d-pad will be taking care of most of the basic controls. The select button, true to its markings, is the play/pause button. The left and right arrows will skip from song to song; if you hold in either key, you'll rewind or fast-forward. While this method of searching is standard, we would've preferred a scroll wheel or jog dial, since they allow the user greater control when skipping around within a song. There is no stop function, but we're sure just about everyone will be able to There is no stop feature. Overall, these controls will get you through your listening day just fine.

Advanced Playback Controls (6.25)
There's a handful of advanced playback features on the Walkman 16GB. You can toggle shuffle mode, set one song to repeat, set an entire playlist to repeat, and a shuffle all songs setting. Like most media players, the Walkman 16GB also has a hold setting, which locks input.
When a song is playing, the screen will display the title of the song in a scrolling marquee across the top of the screen, the album art, the position of that song in the playlist (i.e. 7 / 48), the artist, the album, the genre, and the year the song was made. There's also a clock that keeps track of how long the song has been playing, although there's no information as to how long the song is or how much longer it will play.
