Basic Playback     (8.00)
The basic playback controls are mainly handled by the touch screen. Play/pause, skipping, and searching all have their own onscreen buttons. The onscreen buttons are large enough and spaced far enough apart to accommodate larger fingers. The volume can be controlled onscreen as well, or via the physical keys on top of the device. There really isn't a proper hold button; you'll have to lock the screen in a menu.

This is the music playback application for a song without album art. It looks
a bit plain.

This is what the video playback display looks like. It will automatically
hide when not in use.

Advanced Playback     (9.25)
The Archos 5 has some great advanced playback controls. First of all, you can customize exactly what you play: all, queue, intro (you can set how long you want the intro clip to be, for easy Power Hour mixes), single (repeat track), and folder. There are also shuffle and repeat options.

While a song is playing, you can see the name of the song, the artist, the album name, the album art, the song's position in the playlist, the previous song in the playist, the next song in the playlist, a clock and slider bar depicting the current position of the song, and the volume. The feature we don't usually see is the previous/next song's title displayed to the side of the previous/forward skip buttons.
