| Conclusion There's no doubt that the iPod Touch is a seriously cool piece of kit. And it does an excellent job; it is easy to use, has great audio quality, a beautiful screen and excellent battery life. But there are a few gotchas: iTunes is the only way to synch video and music to the device, so you're stuck if you don't like its sometimes idiosyncratic approach to managing media. And the introduction of the App Store has opened new vistas; you can download games, utilities and any other programs, both free and paid for. But only if Apple allows it; they restrict the programs on offer. And it's not cheap; at $299.99 for the 16GB model we reviewed, you are paying a premium. The Creative X-Fi has the same capacity and is $100 less. But the iPod Touch is just much cooler than other media players, and that could be worth the extra. |
