9 Sept 09 - In an event in San Francisco, Apple CEO steve Jobs announced the next generation of iPods, including a new Shuffle priced at $79 and a new iPod Nano with a camera. He also announced a new version of the iTunes software that connects them to PCs and Macs. The new version of iTunes is available now.
The new Shuffle is the same size and shape as the existing model, but lowers the price (to $79) and increases the capacity to 4GB. The new Nano also has the same styling as the existing model, but adds a camera that can shoot video. The new models will cost $149 for the 8GB version and $169 for the 16GB.
The new version of iTunes adds a number of new features to the software, including a new feature called Genius Mixes, which uses user-submitted playlists to create new playlists from your songs. It also adds improved Synching features: users can now manage iPhone apps through iTunes. Apple also announved a new format for music purchased through iTunes: the iTunes LP format includes liner notes, lyrics and photos; all of the things that you would find in an LP or CD sleeve.
Jobs also announced a new version of the OS that runs the iPhone and iPod; version 3.1. The new version will add support for Genius playlists and for buying ringtones through the iTunes store. The update is available now through iTunes.
