At Sony's press event last night we got to spend some quality time with their new X Series and W Series Walkman media players. The W-series looks a lot like in-ear headphones connected to an around-the-back-of-your-head band. They can hold 2GB, support WMA, AAC, WMT, and MP3, and can quick charge in 30 minutes to provide 12 hours of battery life. They also have a feature called ZAPPIN. Since the headphones don't have a screen to display song info, the ZAPPIN button will skip through the song at set increments. The press guy said it was probably something like 6 seconds, 15 seconds, then 30 seconds, although it's not finalized yet. They'll be available in April for $70, either in black or pink.

This is what the W-series will look like on your transparent head.

This is a shot of the outsides of the device. The two pieces stick together with magnets.

volume, and mini USB port.

We have less info about the X Series, since the only things on display were pre-production units under glass. We do know they'll be available in 16GB and 32GB sizes, have a 3-inch OLED touchscreen with localized haptic feedback, feature active noise cancellation integrated into the device itself, have integrated wifi, and support MP3/WMA/AAC/L-PCM and AVC(H.264/AVC)/MPEG-4/WMV DR.
